This seminar will examine how selected scientific principles underlying unfoldment and emergence can influence practical decisions and applications of the therapeutic process.

Both unfoldment and emergence speak to the relationship of health and healing to growth and development, but in different ways. The difference can be summed up in the following:
Does the organism choose among several sanctioned or pre-created paths (unfoldment) or does it choose a new path (emergence)?

Part 1:
Unfoldment is the release of the inherent genetic potential in each person, enabled in great part by environmental conditions in which they find themselves. These may include family and social experiences, challenging and traumatic events, and so forth.

The ripe fruit, the flower, and the maturing adult are inherently ready to fulfill their biological and evolutionary destiny.

Part 2:
Emergence is in principle much more unpredictable than unfoldment. Emergent systems, including humans, self-organize themselves into more complex, orderly and adaptive structures built upon special feedback loops and circuits.

The way information is received, stored and recalled and flows through the entire system can produce non-linear changes that can be difficult to predict.

This seminar will use lecture, demonstration and small group exercises to explore and build somatic and formative therapeutic skills.
