Managing the Aging Process

From The Alpha to the Mature Adult

Dr. James Feil (USA)

Living is a constant shift in life phases - from infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood – and is reflected in how our brains, our nervous system and motor systems, and our metabolic, energy producing system relate to, respond to and understand the world.

On a purely physical level, these phases and states automatically follow each other, possibly influenced somewhat by lifestyle habits such as exercise, diet and other factors, yet inevitable. Some of these changes, especially in the early part of our lives, are generally strongly anticipated and desired, as we move from child to adolescent to young adult.

Yet crossing the barrier of 40, and even more that of 50 and beyond, we begin to have our doubts about these changes, and often feel or imagine that we start to lose more than we gain in the process of aging.

Stanley Keleman has explored the phenomenon of aging and its implications in interesting ways from his perspective of Formative and Somatic Psychology. Using some of his insights as a starting point, this seminar will engage the phenomenon of aging, and provide some strategies and methods that take advantage of the continued challenges and opportunities that present themselves as we move into the later decades.

This seminar is directed at any therapist or educator or person interested in the topic, and will include lecture, demonstration and practical exercises to explore our personal views of the phenomenon of aging.
